A note from Abiral
I believe that many students struggle when their effort isn't targeted in the right direction. In my own experience, too much time was wasted in lessons due to teachers covering content that rarely appeared in exams. My revision technique places strong emphasis on targeted learning, prioritising widely applicable exam technique to treat acing exams as a skill that can be practiced, not brute forced by staring at revision guides or textbooks.
Initially in year 11 I found I was overly relying on passive revision methods such as rereading notes or textbooks. These techniques felt productive but were quite poor for retaining information. Before GCSE season I introduced to myself other methods such as active recall, spaced repetition and past papers to push myself out of my comfort zone. Active revision significantly improves retention and encompasses the techniques I encourage my students to adopt for their own exams. Often true improvement comes from approach instead of effort.
My approach is built on the belief that successful grades are about smart targeted effort instead of intelligence or endless hours of revision. I pledge to help my tutees cut through the noise and focus on what actually works to treat exam success as a skill they can master.
