My name is Abiral Gurung, a 16 year old who has completed his GCSEs. I have always been passionate about learning and helping others at improving in their own study. During my time at secondary school I have gained experience in tutoring through numerous sessions with friends in group and one to one video calls. Those experiences sparked an interest in me to tutor more professionally so I can help other students feel confident in their study too.
I believe that many students don't struggle due to lack of ability but because their effort isn't always focused in the right direction. In my own experience, too much time was wasted in lessons due to teachers covering content that rarely appeared in exams. Because of these experiences I refined my revision technique to place strong emphasis on targeted learning: prioritising widely applicable exam technique to ensure that I treated acing exams as a skill that can be practiced, not brute forced by staring at textbooks.
In year 11, I found that I was relying on passive revision methods such as rereading notes or textbooks. These techniques felt productive but were quite poor for retaining information. Afterwards, I started using other methods such as active recall, spaced repetition and past papers to push myself out of my comfort zone. Initially this shift was difficult but over time I noticed a significant improvement during real exams. Often true improvement comes from approach instead of effort.
My approach is built on the belief that successful grades aren't about intelligence or endless hours but about smart targeted effort. I pledge to help my tutees cut through the noise and focus on what actually works to treat exam success as a skill they can master.
